Dr. Eliana Cohen

Dr. Eliana Cohen is a Registered Psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario and has a Ph.D. in Clinical and Counseling Psychology. She has over 15 years of experience providing psychotherapy to adults, couples, and families.

In addition to the Ph.D. in Clinical and Counseling Psychology, Dr. Cohen completed a 7-year intensive clinical training program in psychodynamic and systemic psychotherapies. During this time, she studied theory and psychotherapeutic techniques, as well as conducted supervised work in individual, couples, family therapy, and general psychiatry. She has completed further specialized training in infertility counseling and couples therapy.

Dr. Cohen obtained additional clinical training at the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry (currently the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health) in the Anxiety Disorders and Outpatient Psychology. At CAMH, Dr. Cohen worked on assessment and treatment of complex mental health disorders. She also obtained specialized training in Cognitive Behavioral therapy. Subsequently, Dr. Cohen worked for many years at the Toronto East General Hospital in the Inpatient and Outpatient Mental Health Units. At Toronto East General, she worked on the Crisis unit dealing with management of acute situations. She also worked as a consultant in the neuropsychology clinic and psychogeriatric units.

Dr. Cohen has an established reputation for providing training and supervision to Masters and Ph.D. students in Psychology. She has supervised the clinical work of over 20 Ph.D. students enhancing their clinical competencies. She is a frequent guest lecturer at York University on psychotherapy techniques. She also acts as examiner of clinical competency for Ph.D. students in psychology. Furthermore, she provides training for senior and established therapists in the field. In the past, she was actively involved in the Ontario Psychological Association Ethics committee.

Dr. Cohen’s style is described as directive and warm, and patients are often able to achieve rapid change. Her emphasis is on positive change and building strength and resiliency. Her interest in relationship dynamics informs most of the work that she does with individuals, couples, families and organizations.
